Congress Must Act Now To Repeal Medicare’s Sustainable Growth Rate Formula

Friends,

On Monday March 1st I had the honor of traveling to our nation’s capitol to attend the American Medical Association’s National Advocacy Conference as a representative of the Massachusetts Medical Society.

I wanted to take just a moment and update you on potential legislation that could dramatically impact your health care. As a physician I am both acutely aware and involved with this process. It is important to me to me to stay abreast of the changes that could affect my patients and the way in which I treat them. I think you will agree that you should also remain closely involved as well.

The American Medical Society has repeatedly looked on as their member physicians have been threatened with Medicare payment cuts, only to have Congress act at the last minute with a reprieve.

The stop-gap, Band-Aid approaches used by Congress in the past to address this crises has only served to increase the severity of future cuts and make it all the more difficult for the establishment of permanent Medicare reform to work financially.

No true health care reform can exist if we do not have stability in the Medicare program.

As a physician I cannot simply support another short-term solution. I feel that for the benefit of both my and all doctors’ patients we need to permanently repeal America’s flawed physician payment plan formula.

To read the AMA’s comprehensive plan to address this problem simply click here. The solutions contained in this document are important to your health care and the way you will be permitted to manage your relationship with your doctor.

I encourage you to take an interest in your health care by reading what the AMA is proposing to help us all.

Sincerely
